Supporting Our Troops

On Veterans Day this past November, the Sophomore English students of Ms. Jenna Koroly began writing letters of support to our troops stationed overseas.  This project developed into a full scale effort to send needed supplies to these soldiers.  After collecting a great many items, they soon found themselves facing the dilemma of how to afford shipping.  Operation Yellow Ribbon came to the rescue by financing the shipping.  This has resulted in a group collaboration between Newport High School and Operation Yellow Ribbon that will reach many of our troops in Iraq and around the world.  Congratulations to Ms. Koroly and her Sophomore classes and thanks for supporting our troops.

Welcome Mr. Draud

The students, faculty and staff of Newport High School would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new principal, Mr. Scott Draud.  Mr. Draud took over this past summer replacing former principal Mr. Jack Patterson who retired after ten years at the helm of NHS.

Before coming to Newport, Mr. Draud had served as Assistant Principal and Head Basketball Coach at Dixie Heights High School.  This is Mr. Draud's second tenure in the  Newport Independent Schools.  He began his teaching career at Newport Middle School and soon moved to the English department at NHS and served as an Assistant Basketball Coach and later Head Basketball Coach.

Everyone at Newport High School is extremely happy to welcome Mr. Draud back to our building and is looking forward to a successful year.

'Cats whip CATS

Congratulations to the students and faculty of Newport High School for their accomplishment on the 2004 CATS test.  NHS students are tested each spring to determine the effectiveness of the school's educational offerings under the Kentucky Education Reform Act of 1990.  This year's test saw great improvements in our overall scores and helped to keep NHS progressing toward the goal of all students proficient by 2014.  It is through the combined efforts of the administration, faculty, students and parents that these goals are being met.  Congratulations to All!!!!!!!
